Dear Woman Caught in Adultery

Dear Woman Caught in Adultery
“You’re past is expired. You’re forgiven”
[[Based on a True Story: John 8:1-11]]

Dear Woman Caught in Adultery,

The buzz is that you were sleeping around with a man. They poked and poked until they found it. Catching you in the act was seemingly the direct evidence they needed to convict you. You were innocent until proven guilty; you got caught in a flagrant sin. No longer could you deny it. What a shameful moment for you, being caught in the act with someone, naked, vulnerable, with a man who isn’t your husband. The sad thing about your story is that no one knows your name but they remember you as – the Woman Caught in Adultery “ That’s the stigma that has followed you since.

The front page of the paper said, “… in adultery.” This indicates that you are a married woman. To make things worst, the guy you were caught with left you. There is no report about him. You are left to carry the humiliation alone. Everyone seems to know the remedy for your sin. They seem to know the right punishment for your crime. As if the shame wasn’t punishment enough.

Every so often, our responses towards our peers are harsher than God’s response. Even our punishment is harsher than God’s punishment. We have a tendency to remediate the situation harshly. We reprimand the sinner and we remove them from their position. We weigh the sin before we sentence them instead of giving grace. We forget that sin is sin. We mostly adhere to the laws of Moses than the law of Jesus.

So, modern day Woman Caught in Adultery, maybe you didn’t get caught literally in adultery but you got caught in a sin. Find out what Jesus is saying about your case. Others have sentenced you to life without possibility of parole. But Jesus is not sentencing you anywhere. He isn’t going to ask you why you did it. He doesn’t condemn you. He has given you a warning. What you did was in the past. Move past your past. Leave this sin behind you. You are forgiven. Go and sin no more!

Strongly together & Inspired by,
Friend
