Katherine Duplessis – Stronger With Her

Our encounter began in South Shore High School. I was a misfit. She hung out with the “cool kids.” Typically, the “cool kids” are always deemed to be mean and bullies. That was not the case for Katherine. She was the congenial cool kid, very friendly and always had a happy expression on her face. However, life wasn’t always filled with beautiful floral arrangements of orchids, hydrangeas, peonies and roses. It is said that it is in suffering that endurance is cultivated and then character is produced. As life struck, she has proven to be tenacious. I admire her strength to endure the things that she endured. She is the owner of J Loft Event space. What a beautiful space. Right before you get to the questionnaire I have to say this. This feature wouldn’t be complete if I didn’t mention that she is truly the #1 fan of Beyonce.

Here is my virtual interview with Katherine:

  1. What do you do?
I am a wife, mother of three and an entrepreneur. I plan events and create beautiful floral designs.
  2. What is one thing you would you like the audience to know about you?
I describe myself as the Ultimate Go getter. I make sure I work hard to get what my heart’s desire. I am constantly learning new things just to know the basic foundation in any particular area. I strongly believe knowledge is key. You may never be ready to face some life’s challenges, however the lessons you learn along the way may help you overcome it quicker and smoother.
  3. How do you deal with failures, hardships, judgmental and pessimistic people?
I see failure as a temporary hiccup, where I usually recover and rise to the top. Every hardship becomes a learning experience. I ignore judgmental and pessimistic people because you can’t let other people’s opinion prevent you from fulfilling your purpose or dream. I am my own cheerleader.
  1. What is the one thing that you would say contributed most to your success?
My family, who loves and supports me. Regardless, it’s a family member or friend, surround yourself with people who understand your goal. It can be simple as your friend giving you space to study for a big exam or your husband watching the kids for the night while you network at a conference. Also, return the favor as well. Remember everyone is trying to make it.
  1. What advice would you offer women wanting to be like you and make a difference?
In order to be truly successful, you must network and meet new people. You will get a lot of No’s, but eventually that “Yes” can change your life.

You have to keep aiming for the moon; eventually you will land on it. This is what I take away from her life. I’m stronger with her, learning to pursue my goals no matter what obstacles are standing before me and definitely disregarding who is doubting me. Keep going

Here’s to million dollar projects Katherine
Cheers!
