Dear Bathsheba

Dear Bathsheba
“Sorry I judged you.”
[[Based on a True Story: 2 Samuel 1]]

Dear Bathsheba,

I’m offering you condolences for the passing of your husband and your child. This is the second letter I am writing to you. The first one couldn’t be sent to you. Owning to the severity of my words. It contained an extreme level of vitriol, vicious criticism. Said,

“Your beauty is just an ornament, beautiful outside but ugly on the inside. Being that you cheated on your husband, Uriah, how did you feel when David killed him? Was it your idea to get him killed? Were you relieved that you would never had to tell him about the affair? Oh, and to add insult to injury, it was unprotected sex and now you are pregnant for him.”

How many of these letters have you received after this incident? How many of us have cast more stones than shielded you from them? Cursed and blamed you for his death. And when the child died we concluded that was punishment for your crime. We’ve preyed more on your affair than we prayed for you. Your sin is no greater than the sin of the person who lied – sin is sin. We stand conscience-stricken and guilt-ridden, apologizing for gossiping about you. I’m sorry I judged you.

Modern Day Bathsheba, maybe your marriage has been dull for a moment. Now, you have a particular man at your job, on your campus, in your church, at your gym who has been pursuing you. This man seems to fit all the shoes that you husband can’t fit. Consider your vows that you took when you said I do. Honor your marriage above all unhappiness. Your marriage is till death do you part but don’t pray for his death, don’t hire a hit man to kill him, don’t be an accomplice his death. Be prudent not to let your decisions cost your husband his life. Maybe you already did the deed and you have to live with shame, pick your head up. We might act better than you, but in the end, we are all the same, sinners. Keep your head up, and sin no more.

Strongly together & Inspired by,
Friend

  1. This is a perspective that’s often shunned. Women are expected to be wholesome and faithful till the very end…even if it means sacrificing their own selves…their own happiness…stuck.
It’s important that we assess the situation for what it really is and not fast judgment.
